Ms. Lewis completed her Juris Doctorate at George Mason University School of Law in 2007 and went on to obtain her Masters of Law in Taxation from the University of Denver, Sturm College of Law in 2008. As a part of her broad taxation curriculum, she focused on the application of the federal tax structure to trusts, estates, and fiduciaries. Her understanding of federal taxation is a valuable supplement to her legal practice at the Elder & Disability Law Center.
Ms. Lewis practices in the areas of guardianships and conservatorships, probate administration, and estate and tax planning. She has significant experience in litigation and negotiation. Ms. Lewis provides knowledgeable legal counsel to conservators, guardians, personal representatives, and fiduciaries.
Ms. Lewis assists clients with disabled or otherwise incapacitated family members in establishing and managing guardianships and conservatorships. From seeking the court’s appointment, through qualification and bonding, and continuing through administration of the ward’s personal and financial affairs, Ms. Lewis is able to navigate clients through the complicated guardianship and conservatorship process from beginning to end.
Similarly, Ms. Lewis handles the firm’s probate practice for large and small, supervised and unsupervised estates. Ms. Lewis will guide clients from the initial probate petition, through distribution and closing of the estate, and all of the legal requirements in between.
In addition, Ms. Lewis is available to advise clients in estate and tax planning matters. Her prior experience in domestic relations allows her to lend an experienced hand in dealing with estate and tax planning incident to or post- divorce and for blended families.
Ms. Lewis is admitted to practice law in the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Virginia and the State of Colorado.
